NAMB Certification
The National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB) is a not-for-profit organization committed to promoting the highest degree of professionalism for its members and providing ethical and professional standards against which mortgage brokers can be measured.
In order to achieve this goal, NAMB has developed a rigorous certification program to recognize brokers who have attained the highest levels of professional knowledge. Developed through extensive research by mortgage industry professionals, NAMB offers three levels of certification, the General Mortgage Associate (GMA), Certified Residential Mortgage Specialist (CRMS) and the Certified Mortgage Consultant (CMC) designations. A NAMB certification is earned only once the candidate has met certain requirements of experience and knowledge as a mortgage broker and has passed a written examination. Recertification is required through continuing education courses and is a valuable part of all designations as it encourages brokers to continue their educational growth. GMA, the entry-level certification, signifies that an individual has demonstrated the minimum level of knowledge required to enter the residential mortgage profession. No prior experience is needed; however candidates must have at minimum a GED or high school diploma The CRMS indicates that an individual has mastered the core skills and knowledge of the mortgage profession, and its related disciplines and laws. To qualify, the candidate must have at least two years experience in the mortgage brokerage industry and have a minimum of 50 points accumulated through experience; other professional designations; formal and informal education, a portion of which must be mortgage industry related courses; and leadership and participation in the industry. The highest level of certification available in the industry, the CMC program raises industry standards, practices and ethics. The level of knowledge and experience required is more extensive than for the GMA and the CRMS. To qualify, a candidate must have at least five years work experience in the mortgage brokerage industry and have a minimum of 100 points attained through work experience; other professional designations; formal and informal education, a portion of which must be mortgage industry related courses; and leadership and participation in the industry. When combined with our code of ethics and best business practices, a NAMB certified mortgage broker is your guarantee that you are dealing with a knowledgable professional in the mortgage origination field. |
